Irvine Underground has been invited to the first ever Disconnect Camp happening May 1-3, 2015. This one of a kind event is at a summer camp venue located near Big Bear, California. With a unique venue comes unique approaches to how a conference is ran. All food is included, tent camping is encouraged (although cabins are available) and instead of talks you will be able to actively engage with the presenters who are coming down for the event.

Get that tent and those hiking boots out of storage (or head to your local sporting goods store and pick up a few things) and join everyone in the mountains of southern California for a weekend of tech, trees, and camping (really, glamping … food is catered for the event! and there are showers! Showers are important.)

P.S. I’ve been told there is a 24/7 nacho cheese fountain.

We had a nice sized group of people, about 15 or so.  Brandon Cholodenko treated us all by bringing a piece of legendary technology, a functional Apple I he’s been working on, thats soon to be heading to the Bugbook Historical Microcomputer Museum in Floyd, VA. If you missed seeing this awesome piece of equipment in person check out the photos, and just pretend like you were actually there. 

Longstanding member of Irvine Underground and constant presence at Def Con, Frazier Cunningham gave a riveting presentation that delved into the immense possibilities and ethical dangers of biohacking. LayerOne is security conference focused on hacking and security. This years conference will be held May 24-25 2014 in Monrovia. Amongst the talks there are also a few featured events worth mentioning including the Lock pick village, hardware hacking village, HAM testing (Get your HAM license), tamper-evident contest and the infamous capture the flag event.

ToorCon will be held October 22nd – 24th 2010 at the San Diego Convention Center in downtown San Diego, Ca. This is just a small hop away from OC, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura and Los Angeles County and is well worth the trip for a hacker/security con! Join Irvine Underground during the weekend, we will be present at the conference and have an information booth setup within. Alf Watt, creator of iStumbler gave a video conference presentation to Irvine Underground on September 9th 2005. This was our first video conference and the meeting went over well. Mr. Watt discussed his application and the future development of the project.

He took questions and answered them in details. The video of this presentation is not available. All future talks will be recorded accordingly and posted to the media archive page.

We know you’ve been getting bored of the last rendition of the Irvine Underground site, so we’ve secretly been working the past few weeks behind the scenes… Hopefully you’ll like the new look as much as we do!

This months IVU had a great crowd and great turnout. There were some new faces and some old friends who came out of the woodwork (OK jigsaw isn’t that old). The lock pick board was brought out and a handful of people brushed up on their picking skill sets throughout the evening. (more…)

The meeting went very well. HTMLTron demonstrated his Apple TV what its capabilities were and how to upgrade the hard disk by taking it apart. lei demonstrated his coil gun using an old disposable camera and magnet wire (solid copper wire insulated with an enamel coating). Pizza and soda (and buffalo wings)… I had too many energy drinks (energy drinks + no food = bad deal). (more…)
